Year of Production: 2017
The narrative thread of the series is built around a tightly knit, charming family whose members openly invite us into their unusual world. We look at embalming and cremation, appreciate how facial reconstruction is, in itself, a high-art form, and see that even crematoriums have become ecological. We also learn about engraving techniques on tombstones and revisit funeral traditions and some of the rites that were originally dictated by the Catholic Church. The sincere, spontaneous reflections of those working in the funeral business today help to demystify a profession often wrongly perceived by society. Viewers will come away with an understanding that running a funeral business is, more than anything, a very human undertaking.
